AUBURNDALE, Fla. - - The Wilmington University baseball team started its annual Florida trip on Monday night and ran into a hot hitting Minnesota State team, falling 14-0, in seven innings at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park.

The Mavericks (9-3) used a pair of lopsided innings to break away from the Wildcats (3-2), while Maverick starter Taisei Yahiro shut Wilmington down with seven strikeouts and only one hit n five innings.

Minnesota State scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but it was a five-run third inning that set the wheels in motion. The Mavericks used five hits and three stolen bases to get around the bags, extending the lead out to 6-0. They then scored six runs on two hits, four walks, and two hit batters to break the game open, 14-0.

Shawn Haut broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-out single. Matt Warrington singled in the seventh for the Wildcats second hit.

Rich Albrecht went the first five innings, striking out five while allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, falling to 0-1 on the year. Justin Barcoski allowing six runs in the sixth and then Dom Grady pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

The Wildcats travel to Saint Leo, Florida, on Tuesday to take on the Lions at their home park. The first pitch of the single game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
