McCLUTCHY NETS CAREER HIGH IN OVERTIME WIN OVER GRIFFINS

(2/9/22) Forward Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) netted a career high 21 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Dominican College Lady Chargers to a thrilling 79-72 victory over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College tonight in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action in the Hennessy Center.

(2/9/22) Forward Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) netted a career high 21 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Dominican College Lady Chargers to a thrilling 79-72 victory over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College tonight in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action in the Hennessy Center.
The win lifts the Lady Chargers to 12-11 overall and 7-6 in CACC play, while the Griffins fall to 19-4 overall and 12-1 in the CACC.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) netted 16 points, a career high 11 assists, eight rebounds and three steals. Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) scored 11 points.
Guard Elle Nittinger (Waverly, N.Y.) came off the bench to score nine points, while Olivia Levy (Stony Point, N.Y.) tallied eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.
The Griffins saw four of their five starts reach double-figures with Lauren Cim scoring a team high 18 points and Bri Hewlett recording the double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds.
DC scored the first eight points of the overtime period to jump ahead 70-62 with 1:18 on the clock. CHC would pull within five points with 11 seconds left, but Dominican closed out the final 10 seconds going 4-4 from the charity stripe to secure the 79-72 victory.
Dominican trailed 56-54 with under four minutes left in the fourth quarter when they went on a 6-0 spurt to pull ahead 60-56 with a little over one minute left in requlation. A Griffin trey put them within a point and they later tied the contest with 36 ticks left to force the overtime period.
CHC would hold their biggest lead of the game, 46-39, with 2:35 to play in the third but the Lady Chargers would rally with a 9-2 closing quarter run, capped off by a buzzer beating three-point basket by Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) to lift them to a 48-47 advantage.
The first half was a see saw battle that saw the teams tied at the end of the first quarter and saw the Griffins take a 32-30 lead into the locker room.
For the game, the Chargers shot 40.9% from the field, while the Griffins shot 36.7%. Dominican scored 22 points off 19 Griffin turnovers, while CHC held the slim 40-39 advantage in rebounds.
The Lady Chargers return to action this coming Saturday when they travel to CACC opponent, Wilmington University. Game time is set for 1pm.
