Caldwell Volleyball's Elise Smith Named CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for September
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 21, 2019) -- Caldwell University women's volleyball standout Elise Smith on Monday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2019, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Smith earned the honor for demonstrating success on the court during the month, while also being a standout in the classroom and in her surrounding communities.
On the volleyball court, Smith was named the CACC Player of the Week on Sept. 30. For the month, she started 14 matches, averaging 3.24 kills per set (165 total), 2.25 digs/set, and 13 total blocks. She had 19 or more kills in three matches during the month, including back-to-back totals of 27 versus Felician (Sept. 26) and 25 against Nyack (Sept. 28). Smith also posted 19 in a five-set win over Assumption in the second match of the season.
Smith, a sophomore from O'Fallon, Ill., sports a cumulative grade point average of 3.84 in her major of accounting/human resource management. She was named to her school's Dean's List during both semesters of the 2018-19 academic year.
Smith is active in the local community. She serves as the treasurer of Caldwell's Spanish Club, and is a member of the Cougars Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Smith volunteered at the New Jersey Food Bank twice, while also taking time out of her schedule to do landscaping at Grover Cleveland Park. She also served as a volunteer with local volleyball clubs helping to run clinics over this past summer.
The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is handed out each month from September through May, spanning the entire academic calendar year. The award recognizes a student-athlete's athletic achievement, academic success and their generosity in taking part in community engagement activities.
