NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 19, 2019) -- Former Bloomfield College men's basketball star Andre Dabney was officially inducted into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Hall of Fame on Saturday during a ceremony held on the BC campus in Bloomfield, N.J. Dabney, along with Bloomfield coaches and administrators, spoke during the ceremony that happened just moments prior to the start of the men's basketball contest versus Wilmington University.
Bloomfield Director of Athletics Sheila Wooten first spoke during the event and shared her favorite memories of Dabney -- not just as a player, but as a person. Dabney's head coach, Gerald Holmes, was next to speak, and told several stories that shed light onto the person that Andre has become since graduating from Bloomfield. He spoke of how Andre was easy to motivate and how the player used the motivation to push his career to the heights of being one of the finest in CACC history.
CACC Commissioner Dan Mara was next to speak and read off a lengthy list of accomplishments Dabney celebrated during his stellar career. Mara then presented Dabney with a framed portrait and officially inducted him into the Hall.
Dabney spoke for several minutes and thanked Bloomfield College for helping him grow as a person. He said that where he came from, it would have been easy to become a statistic, but Bloomfield gave him an opportunity to become a college graduate. Dabney will share his message with other CACC men's basketball teams in early March, as he will speak at the CACC Basketball Championship Banquet on March 8 in Caldwell, N.J.
Dabney was a First-Team All-CACC performer each of his four seasons. He was named the CACC Player of the Year in 2005, and was the tournament most valuable player as he guided the program to the second of its three-straight conference titles from 2004-06. A three-time CACC Champion, Dabney led the team to its first two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2005 and 2006. He finished his career with 2,350 points, and currently ranks second in program history for career scoring. Dabney was also named the 2006 All-Met Writers Division II Player of the Year.
Dabney became the third member of the Class of 2018 to be officially inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame, joining the 2008 Georgian Court University Women's Volleyball Team and Dominican College women's basketball coaching legend Steve Baxter. Baxter was posthumously inducted into the Hall earlier in the day on Saturday during an event in Orangeburg, N.Y. The fourth member of the class who will be officially inducted later this year will be Caldwell University softball great Corinne Reiser Houser.
