BEARS FALL SHORT AS PACE COMES BACK FOR, 6-4 DECISION

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior right fielder Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, N.J.) knocked in two of the Bloomfield College baseball team's four runs on Wednesday afternoon, but the Bears suffered a 6-4 loss as Pace University rallied in the 8th inning. The non-conference road setback was the first loss of the season for the Bears who opened up the 2017 campaign Saturday with a double-header sweep over Lincoln University (Pa.).

Location: Finnerty Field / Pleasantville, N.Y.

How It Happened

  • 1st inning - Bloomfield jumped on the board early after a Pichardo triple scored Cristopher Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) and Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.). Montero had reached base on a two-out walk and Cabral was hit by a pitch, setting up the Pichardo blast to right center. Senior righty, Carlos Tejeda (New York, N.Y.) got the start on the mound and gave back the two runs in the bottom half of the inning but settled in after that and worked six straight scoreless innings
  • 5th inning - The Bears broke the tie with an unearned run when junior transfer, Ramger Iglesias (Bronx, N.Y.) came across the plate after reaching base on an error by the Pacesetters short-stop
  • 6th inning – Bloomfield doubled their lead when Cabral, after being hit by another pitch, scored on a fielding error by the left-fielder on a single from Pichardo. Pichardo reached second on the outfielder's debacle but was stranded on the base pads once Pace made a pitching change and the reliever struck out three consecutive Bears to end the inning
  • 8th inning - The visitors remained in control as Tejada cruised until being relieved by Ellis Sanchez (Kearny, N.J.) to start the bottom of the eighth.  Pace seized the opportunity and quickly evened up the match with a 2-run homer after the Bears senior right-hander surrendered a lead-off ground rule double to left field. The home team went up for good when Sanchez was pulled from the game and left two base runners who eventually scored to put the Pacesetters up 6-4 and complete the comeback rally

Up Next: The Bears will try to make amends tomorrow when they return to Finnerty Field to face Pace for another non-conference tilt on the diamond. The first-pitch is set for 3:00 pm with all the excitement available online for Live Stats and Live video.
