Men’s Basketball Defeated By Bloomfield, 72-68, On Senior Night

Tatum and Willis Lead Post With 12 Points

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team dropped its final home game on Wednesday night 72-68 to Bloomfield. The Eagles fall to 9-15 overall and 9-8 in conference play with two games remaining.

Senior Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) was 5-of-6 from the field for 12 points and grabbed four boards. Junior Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) also had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds and three blocks. Senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added 10 points off the bench.

The Eagles had eight early offensive boards to help build a slim 13-11 advantage by the 13:34 mark of the first. Bloomfield grabbed a lead with 12:47 remaining in the half off a layup by Kevin Udo, which it would hold for most of the period.

Down 18-14, the Eagles' largest deficit to that point, junior AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) pulled down a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a thunderous dunk and a free-throw to cut the lead to one.

After falling behind by as many as six, Post battled back and Krischer hit from distance with 2:56 left on a dish by senior Ryan Rock (Point Hope, Alaska) to tie the game 29-29. The Eagles ended the half on an 8-1 run to head into the break in front 37-34. Krischer scored four points down the stretch.

Senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored four of his eight points to begin the second half as Post earned its largest lead of the game at 43-36 with 15:36 left to play. Dondre Whitmore and Claude Blue combined for 12 points as the Deacons stormed in front 57-48 with a 21-5 run midway through the half.

Post slowly chipped away until senior Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) found Willis behind the arc to put the Eagles in front 63-62 with just 2:13 left. The Eagles went cold from there as Bloomfield scored six straight points to take the lead for good.

Bloomfield held a 44-38 advantage on the boards, but Post led 17-16 offensively. The Eagles held a slim 18-16 advantage in second-chance points.

Post is back in action tomorrow night on the road at Dominican. A win by the Eagles clinches a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament berth. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
