MEN'S BASKETBALL RETURNS TO CACC CHAMPIONSHIP SEMFINALS FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/5/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team, the second seed in the North Division, knocked off the visiting #3S Tigers of Holy Family University, 71-59, to advance to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship semifinals for the third consecutive year.

Dominican (21-7) will now take on #1S Jefferson this coming Saturday afternoon at 2pm on the campus of Caldwell University, the host of this year's CACC Championship Tournament. The contest marks the third-consecutive year the two will square off in the postseason with each side earning a win the previous two meetings. The Chargers knocked off the Rams in the CACC semis back in 2017 at Caldwell, while Jefferson returned the favor with a win in the CACC Championship Final last year.
Guard Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) highlighted the first half as he netted his 1000th career point. He went into tonight's game with 998 career points and converted two free throws with 11:08 left in the half to reach the 1000 point plateau.
Junior guard Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led all scorers with a night best 19 points (5-6 from the three-point arc) and four rebounds.
Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while Ginyard and Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) each tallied 12 points in the win. Grant added four boards and four assists.
Junior Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) netted seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and a team high four steals and Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) also grabbed seven boards.
Holy Family was led by Branden Aughburns with 16 points.
The first half was tied 7-all with 13:39 left in the first half when the Chargers went on an 11-2 run to take an 18-9 lead. The Tigers would later cut the lead to 30-29 with two and a half minutes to go, but DC used another 11-2 run to close out the half with a 40-32 lead.
DC increased the lead to double-digits on a trey from Ginyard with under 14 minutes left in the game and would take their biggest lead (71-46) on another three-point bucket from Ginyard with 3:37 on the clock and they could cruise to the 71-59 win.
