BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- The Bloomfield College men's basketball team picked up their third straight victory on Tuesday night, defeating Post University 80-70. Junior forward
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had another monster game, scoring 26 points on 12-for-13 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds. Guard,
Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 14 points while dishing out 8 assists, grabbing 5 rebounds, and picking up 4 steals. White's 8 assists marked a new season-high for the junior.
It was a close contest early on as the game saw 4 lead changes, until the Bears clawed out a 15-2 run sparked by Blue that gave them a 34-20 lead with 4:48 remaining in the first half.
In a pre-game interview head coach
Gerald Holmes mentioned his game plan was to attack the Eagles down low and it proved to be successful one. Bloomfield held a 30-10 advantage in the paint through the opening period. The Bears played solid defense as well in the first stanza, holding Post University to just 30 percent shooting from the floor. Bloomfield went into the looker room up 39-27.
The Eagles chipped away in the second half to come within as many as six (45-39) with 15:04 left to play. The visitors could not get much closer as Bloomfield's Blue and White fended off any comeback attempts with the help of senior teammates
Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.). Hall ended the night with 10 points and 7 rebounds while Williams finished up with 13 points 4 steals.
Post University closed the gap to 69-64 with 1:58 left to play. Williams and White iced the game for the Bears down the stretch. Williams hit all four of his free throws and White knocked down a couple of shots to push the lead back up to nine (76-67) with 1:07 left in the final period. Blue put the finishing touches on the game with an emphatic windmill slam with three seconds left, leading the Bears conference to win.
The Bears victory keeps them very much alive in the playoff race as they currently sit in second place of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division with 3 games left to play and all against CACC opponents.
With the win Bloomfield improved to 10-6 in CACC action, second in the North Division and 11-12 overall. Post dropped to 10-8 in conference play, third in the North and 11-13 overall.
The Bears next test comes this Thursday in a make up game against the Rams of Philadelphia University at the Bloomfield College Gym.
