DOBBS FERRY, NY – The Bears baseball team remained perfect in 2018 with a late-inning push over Mercy College Thursday afternoon. The non-conference regional showdown saw Bloomfield score 4 runs across the last three innings to secure a 4-0 victory over the Mavericks and improve to 3-0-1 on the year.
Senior reliever,
Steven Acosta (Lakewood, NJ) picked up his second win of the young season in a brief one-inning appearance, striking out 2 and benefiting from the Bears offense coming alive after his performance.
Kendon Strachan (West Hempstead, NY) belted a 2 RBI triple in the top of the 7
th to right center and opened up the scoring for the visitors.
The Mavericks threatened in the bottom of the inning with bases loaded but
Patrick Haas (Haddonfield, NJ) came on and shutdown the home team and preserved the Bloomfield shutout. Senior,
Juan Reina (Paterson, NJ) ripped an RBI single in the 8
th that scored lead-off hitter
Jason Holguin (Lakewood, NJ) to make it 3-0. Holquin added some extra insurance himself in the 9
th when he came back around with a double down the left-field line to drive in a run and capped the visitors scoring.
The Bears now pack their bags for their annual Spring Break trip to Florida. Action kicks off against Stonehill College on Tuesday, March 6
