BEARS VOLLEYBALL TAME TIGERS IN FIVE IN FIRST CACC ACTION OF 2015

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - The women's volleyball team took to the road for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action of 2015 and battled to a 3-2 victory over the Tigers of Holy Familt Tuesday evening. The win pushed the Bears to 4-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Bloomfield handed Holy Family their seventh straight loss and dropped the Tigers to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in CACC action. 

The Bears clawed their way back after dropping the first and third sets 18-25 and 16-25. The home team was poised to win the match in the fourth set but after playing to a 12-12 tie, Bloomfield reeled off nine straight points on the service of junior transfer, Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.). The visitors then took the set by a score of 25-20 and forced a fifth and deciding set. 

In the final set Holy Family watched the Bears move in front to a 10-7 advantage before answering with three straight to knot the score at 10-10. Junior Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J.) aided in two key blocks to give Bloomfield an edge and they completed the comeback with a 15-11 final set victory. 

Senior Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) finished the match with a team-high 15 kills and the Bears setting tandom of juniors, Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, C.A.) and Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) each recorded 16 assists. Sophomore 'Bear of the Week' Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) pitched in a solid night with 26 digs. Bermudez tallied a team-high 27 digs to go along with her 9 kills for the match and Paulino ended the night with 8 blocks.

Next up the Bears continue their season-opening 8 game road trip when they visit the Clippers of Concordia College. The CACC North Division match-up is set to go at 6:00pm from the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, N.Y. as both teams look for their second consecutive conference game win.
