PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - The Bloomfield College women's basketball team captured their third consecutive victory on Saturday when they defeated Holy Family University 79-70. Bloomfield guard
Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) had a game high 16 points, shooting 55.0 percent from the field. Forward
Tierra Scott (Bear, Del.) played a big role in the win, scoring 14 points to go along with her 8 rebounds. The victory, Bloomfield's first on the road against the Tigers in over ten years, improved the visitor's record to 11-7 overall and 9-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Bears remain atop first place in the CACC North Division while the setback drops Holy Family to 12-8 overall and 9-3 in conference action.
The game started with a 9-0 run as the Bears got off to a hot start. The Tigers quickly closed the gap by responding with an immediate 8-0 answer, however the Bears struck right back with a 15-4 spurt to go up 24-12 with 8:12 remaining in the opening period. Holy Family continued to fight back to stay in the game as they drew the score to 32-29 with 1:05 remaining after two free throws from senior, Sarah Pawlak (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). The Bears would extend their lead to 36-29 to end the half.
After not hitting converting a single three-pointer in the first half, Bloomfield opened up the second with a deep ball from Scott to give them a 10-point cushion. The Bears held the lead for most of the half, pushing their advantage to as many as 16 (58-42) with 9:38 left in the game. The Tigers were not ready to concede the game just yet. Led by Pawlak's 11 point second half, the Tigers would go on a 26-10 run to tie the game at 68 after sophomore, Jill Conroy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on a three-pointer with 2:31 left to play. Bloomfield warded off Holy Family's comeback attempts, going on an 11-2 run to end the game and seal the historic road victory.
The Bears out shot the Tigers 55.3% (26-47) to 42.3% (22-52) from the field and also edged the home team in rebounds, 29-27.
Guard
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) netted 10 points on the afternoon, with 6 of them coming in the second half and she also added 6 assists. Freshman guard,
De'Andra Humphries (Boston, Mass.) provided a key spark off the bench, contributing 13 points to the Bloomfield win.
