BEARS FOUR GAME WIN STREAK HALTED BY RAVENS ON THE ROAD IN OVERTIME

RINDGE, N.H. - A season-high 28 points from junior Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) was not enough to lift the Bears over the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University Sunday afternoon in a 66-68 overtime loss. The non-conference setback snapped Bloomfield's four-game win streak and dropped their overall record to 4-2 while the Ravens improved to 2-2 in 2015.

Senior guard Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) also scored in double-figures as she chipped in 10 points including two buckets from beyond the arc. Smith's impressive afternoon saw her convert ten shots from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. She also snatched six steals to go along with four boards and four assists. Freshman Ilysia Lewis (Baltimore, M.D.) had five steals in the game and senior center, Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) pulled down six boards for the Bears.

The first quarter saw Bloomfield head coach, Dave Caputo pick up his first technical foul in 2015 as his team battled with the Ravens on the court. Smith scored half of the Bears twelve points in the frame with the visitors trailing 15-12 heading into the second quarter. Bloomfield clawed thru the quarter and trimmed their deficit down to two (30-28) heading into the halftime break.

Wilson buried a three-pointer at 6:38 in the third frame to draw the Bears even at 33-33 and when she connected on another one less than a minute later the visiting squad found themselves up 40-33 after a ten-point surge. Bloomfield finished the quarter up 47-43 heading into the final frame in regulation.

Both teams battled in the fourth, exchanging the lead and momentum down the stretch. The Ravens leaned on their senior forwardKara Charette(Fairhaven, Mass.), who also finished the game with 28 points and calmly sank two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to put the home team up 57-54. Smith would once again rise to the occasion as she came off a screen and drained a bucket from beyond the arc to tie the game at 57-57 with 14 seconds on the clock. Franklin Pierce had one more opportunity to win in regulation but a missed three-pointer by senior guardDyamond Gardner(Cambridge, Mass.)set up the overtime finish.

The Bears seemed poised in the extra frame as they scored the first seven points and went up 64-57. The Ravens responded with six straight of their own capped by a three-point play from Charette to draw to within 64-63 with 1:47 left to play. Freshman Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, M.D.) converted a fast break layup to put Bloomfield up 66-63 but Franklin Pierce responded again, converting a three-pointer to tie the ball game. Smith missed her opportunity on a layup to give the Bears the lead and Gardner made good on her second chance at a game winner by scoring at the other end.
