Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) notched his first double-double of the season as the Bears men's basketball team cooled the flames of the Firebirds from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Gym. A sold-out crowd witnessed the home team pick up an, 86-80 non-conference win over UDC with Kelly netting 22 points and 14 boards followed by a near double-double by
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) at 21 points and 9 rebounds.

How It Happened
- Kelly and Davidson led four Bears in double figures as fellow starters, Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) and Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J.) chipped in 16 and 14 points respectively
- Bloomfield led by ten (16-6) just six-and a-half minutes into the game and again at the 6:13 minute mark (31-21) before extending to their largest lead of the opening frame, 36-21
- The Bears settled for a 40-27 lead as they headed into the locker room in control over their DMV area opponents
- The home team's advantage ballooned to eighteen (67-49) after two free throws from guard, Juan Brown (Annapolis, M.D.) but UDC was still determined to make a game of it
- The Firebirds ignited for a 16-2 run across the next three minutes to pull within four (69-65) and divide the Bloomfield Gym crowd which featured a staunch amount of supporters for the UDC local back-court duo
- Fleming had a game high 5 steals including three in the second half that helped Bloomfield extinguish the Firebirds comeback attempt
