The Bloomfield College Bears volleyball team picked up a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory Saturday afternoon, knocking off USciences 25-8, 27-29, 25-13, 25-22. The win improves the Bears to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in CACC play while dropping the Devils to 1-8 on the year and still winless in conference action (0-6).Junior outside hitter Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.),led Bloomfield with a match-high 19 kills. Providing much-needed offensive support was sophomore Ashley Wright (Moreno Valley, C.A.),who added 12 kills. Freshman libero Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) anchored the defense with her match-high 25 digs. Sophomore setter Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, C.A.) distributed a match-high 36 assists tying her second-highest output of the season.
The Bears cruised through the first set before running into a much more efficient Devils squad in set two. Locked at one set apiece, Bloomfield used kills from freshman middle Alex Glasper (Hainesport, N.J.) and Rivera, to take a 23-12 lead in the third. A service error —one of USciences' 9 on the day—put the Bears back in front 2-1.
The fourth set was a see-saw battle with the teams eventually deadlocked at 20-20 however Bloomfield would take 5 out of the next 7 points to secure the CACC win in front of their home crowd. Head Coach Amable Martinez and Madlock were asked for their comments after the match:
