Firebirds Comeback in 17-13 Victory Against Felician

LYNDHURST, NJ – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team claimed victory in 17-13 win against Felician College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Firebirds (2-2, 0-1 ECC), valiantly bounced back from their defeat earlier in the week to defeat the Golden Falcons today with a fantastic attacking performance. Freshman Zander Torres who started the game on fire with the first goal and went on to hit four goals in the match was the encouragement UDC needed early on.

However, the home side showed resilience with Ausar Wright who scored a game-high eight goals giving Felician a 3-1 advantage. But a late goal by Eric Boco saw the first quarter end 3-2.

The second quarter was a gritty period seeing Felician take control of the game to make it 7-5 at the end of the second. UDC stepped it up a notch in the third and showed their determination and spirit to bring the fight to the Golden Falcons.

Another strike by Torres before Jacob Saunders and Turner Allison both struck two goals. But a first collegiate career goal for Sophomore Daniel Washington off an assist by Arthur Phorntavewat was much to be celebrated in the third guiding the Firebirds to a 12- lead before entering the final quarter.

Tensions grew in the final period when Felician grabbed an early goal to close the game by one goal. The Firebirds responded immediately striking three back-to-back goals giving them breathing space. A bittersweet end to the game saw Freshman Maxwell Hansberry get in on the action to also earn his first collegiate career goal and end the game 17-13 for the UDC Firebirds.

Next, the Firebirds Men's Lacrosse will be back at home against Wilmington College, on Saturday February 22nd at 12PM.
