LADY CHARGERS EDGED BY CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Lafayette, Pa. (4/6/19) The Dominican College women’s lacrosse team fell to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College by a score of 17-16. The Lady Chargers fall to a record of 2-6 (2-2 CACC) on the season.
Lafayette, Pa. (4/6/19) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College by a score of 17-16. The Lady Chargers fall to a record of 2-6 (2-2 CACC) on the season. With the win, the Griffins improve to 3-5 (3-1 CACC).
In the first half, both teams traded the first six goals of the game and were tied 3-3 after the opening ten minutes. The Griffins scored back to back goals to extend their lead to 5-3. The Lady Chargers answered with a five-goal run to take an 8-5 lead.
The Griffins ended the first half strong with two goals to cut the deficit to one and the Lady Chargers held a slim lead at halftime.
DC opened the second half with two goals to make their lead 10-7 over the Griffins. The Griffins used a 6-1 run over the next ten minutes of play to take a 13-11 lead over the Lady Chargers. DC trailed by two-goals three times down the stretch and was able to come back to tie each time but were never able to regain the lead.
Tied a 16-16 and less than one minute to play, the Griffins took the lead with seven seconds remaining on a goal by Spencer Fitzgerald on their way to the 17-16 victory over DC.
Spencer Fitzgerald scored seven goals in the win including the game-winning goal while teammate Julia Reinert also scored seven goals in the win. Kaley Malampy scored two goals and recorded two assists. Macailagh Smith recorded a goal and an assist in the win. Valeria Amaya earned her third win of the season in goal for the Griffins and made 13 saves.
Rebecca Nutting (Marcellus, N.Y.) started in goal for the Lady Chargers and recorded 10 saves. Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) led the way for DC with seven goals and recorded one assist. Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored four goals and recorded three assists in the loss. Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Melissa Peysson (East Meadow, N.Y.) each scored two goals. Taylor Sobel (Oradell, N.J.) scored one goal for DC.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back when they return home to host the Warriors of Nyack College for a conference game on Tuesday, April 9th at 4:00 PM.
