Firebirds Stumble in Final Two Periods; in 14-6 Loss to Georgian Court

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team slipped up 14-6 to Georgian Court, on a cold windy day at the UDC Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds (3-4, 0-1 ECC), started the game positively with a lot of intent being shown by the attacking players. The breakthrough came by freshman, Zander Torres with a lovely finish to give UDC a 1-0 lead.

The Lions struck back with two back-to-back goals, but nice play by UDC saw them fight their way back into the game. Senior, Turner Allison hit two goals off assists by Eric Boco and Joseph Cote to see a 3-2 lead going into the second period.

The second period saw the visitors react with two of their players being influential, as Randy Collins who hit four goals on the day and P.J. Saracino who hit four goals and two assists both worked together to tie the game up early in the second.

Boco was instrumental in the second as he took two goals, but Saracino for the visitors kept the game tied up at the end of the second to make it 5-5.

The Firebirds were punished in the third quarter, as a fierce Lions side put up five back-to-back goals, and defensively stopped UDC from finding anyway back in the game. However, an experienced veteran in Allison saw the home side pull a goal back late in the third quarter to make the game 10-6 heading into the final period.

Georgian Court ended up controlling the final period and eventually ending the game 14-6.

The District of Columbia will face off again when they visit Dominican (N.Y.), Wednesday March 4th at 4PM.
