Eagles Fall To Nyack 10-9 On Senior Day

Five Seniors Honored Before Game

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team lost a close battle with Nyack 10-9 on Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field in its final game of the season. Senior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Conn.) scored three goals and added two assists in the game.

Polaski scored the final goal of the game with just 11.5 seconds left to close the gap to 10-9. After a timeout by the Eagles, junior Jordyn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw but there was not enough time to get off a late shot.

Post pulled in front 2-1 in the first quarter after goals by Polaski and senior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.). Freshman Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) had the assist on both scores and finished with a goal and five assists on the day.

Nyack scored three straight times to go ahead 4-2, but a goal by sophomore Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) closed the gap to just one. After another Warriors goal, Polaski and Woltmann each scored to tie the game back up at 5-5. Each team would score once more in the first half.

The Warriors scored four of the first five goals of the second half to take their largest lead at 10-7. Rodriguez found Young with just under 20 minutes left to pull the Eagles within two. The defense stepped up for both teams as neither team would score until the final seconds.

Polaski led Post with six ground balls and five draw controls. Junior Jasana Levy (Meriden, Conn.) had three caused turnovers. Graduate goalkeeper Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 11 saves in net.

Prior to the game Polaski, Baez, Walker and fellow seniors Gabriella Minicucci (Watertown, Conn.) and Melanie Llantin (Bridgeport, Conn.) were honored in their final collegiate game.
