How It Happened
- For the second straight game, the Bears got off to a sluggish start and Saint Anselm capitalized with an 11-3 spurt to begin the opening quarter. Robinson and Smith helped the home team regain their composure and answered back with a 13-1 romp to pull ahead 16-12 before a jumper by senior guard, Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) gave Bloomfield a 20-17 lead at quarter's end
- The Hawks began the 2nd frame with a three-pointer to tie the match at 20-20 but Bloomfield endured and doubled their visitors' output the rest of the quarter for a 34-27 advantage at the break
- Smith, Robinson and McKenzie combined for 25 of the Bears' points at halftime and the home team seemed in control of the match, outshooting the Hawks, 43.3 percent (13-for-30) to 37.0 percent (10-for-27)
- Saint Anselm opened up the third period with a 7-2 run and found a way to knot the score at 36-36 as the Bears couldn't convert buckets in the paint and their offense stalled. By the end of the quarter, the Hawks had shifted the momentum with a 21-10 performance that had the home team questioning their effort on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball
- The Bears stayed within striking distance in the final frame but could not get over the hump as the offense struggled. A three point play by Smith with twenty-five seconds remaining pulled her team to a, 64-61 deficit but Bloomfield did not score another bucket and Saint Anselm picked up the regional win
Up Next: Bloomfield will take to the road for a short ride across the state line to face the Warriors of Nyack College. The Wednesday Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference battle is set to tip-off at 5:30 pm.
