WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP, 80-72 VICTORY ON SENIOR DAY AT THE DEN

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College women's basketball team honored their seniors Saturday afternoon and picked up an, 80-72 win over visiting Georgian Court University. The Bears saw senior, Zhane Robinson (Newark, NJ) register her 7th double-double with a game-high 32 points to go along with 12 rebounds that helped the home squad push their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record to 14-3 and 15-11 overall.

Bobbi Floyd (Las Vegas, NV) turned in a career day as she snagged a whopping, 21 rebounds and chipped in 16 points to secure her fourth double-double of the season. Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) came off the bench to round out the top-scorers with 11 points as Coach Vanessa Watson started an all-senior lineup against Georgian Court (4-20, 2-15 CACC) for Senior Day.

Prior to the game, friends and family of the Bears six seniors were invited to the court to share in honoring the members of the women's basketball team who were playing their final regular-season home game. Kiamsha Bynes (Piscataway, NJ), Aanise Barnes (Newark, NJ), Dayanni Cochran (Las Vegas, NV), Jahniece Jaffe (Egg Harbor, NJ), Alexia' Tucker (Halifax, Va) and Robinson were each called to the floor and presented with a token of appreciation from the Athletic Department and took photos with their family members. The crowd at the Den gave the seniors a warm welcome for their dedication and hard work to the program.

With all the pomp and circumstance concluded, Georgian Court came out firing over the first two quarters and served notice that the home team would be in for a battle if they wanted to pick up their 8th victory at home. The Lions shot a blistering 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from beyond the arc by halftime and took a three-point lead (43-40) into the locker room. Robinson poured in 17 points by the intermission break and McKenzie had nine of her afternoon's total points in the opening two frames to keep the Bears within striking distance.

The home team's defense stepped up after an inspiring talk from Coach Watson at the half and Bloomfield held the Lions to just one made three-pointer in the third and fourth quarter. Floyd grabbed 16 of her total rebounds across the final two periods, including 11 on the defensive glass that helped keep down the visitors second-chance opportunities. Barnes chipped in a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor for 7 points in the second half and along with Robinson and Flyod, provided enough offensive firepower to put the Lions away for good.

Bloomfield now takes to the road for their final regular-season battles of the 2017-18 campaign. First up they travel down the road to square off against the Golden Falcons of Felician University on Wednesday, Feb. 21st at 5:30 pm. The Bears will conclude their regular schedule with a mega-battle against their North Division rivals, Caldwell University on Saturday, Feb. 24th at 1:00 pm.
