Hawks Down Devils

Alisha Mobley scored 15 points in Wednesday's win.
Box Score PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Chowan University women's basketball team took home a 56-48 win over the University of the Sciences on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 7-4 on the season with the victory while the Devils slide to 3-9 on the year. Wednesday's contest marked the fourth straight victory for the Chowan Blue and White.

Alisha Mobley netted a team-high 15 points in the win while collecting eight rebounds (four offensive, four defensive) for the Chowan Blue and White. Dhyamond Crenshaw followed with 13 points while tallying four steals and four rebounds (three offensive, one defensive). Jada Lee added nine points in the win with seven rebounds (four offensive, three defensive) with Jordan Payne notching eight points and eight rebounds (two offensive, six defensive) over the course of the competition.

Megan Wolf led the effort for the Devils with 15 points and six rebounds (three offensive, three defensive) while Laura Trisch and Micah Morgan added nine points apiece in the setback.

The Hawks raced to an early 8-0 lead sparked by Mobley's jumper at the start of the first quarter. Chowan maintained a solid grip on the momentum for the entire first quarter and carried a 15-10 advantage heading into the second quarter.

A jumper by Natalie Stella and two made free throws by Morgan allowed the Devils to cut the deficit to one point (15-14). A bucket by Mobley followed by a free throw along with a layup by Lee pushed the Hawks ahead 20-14 by the 7:04 mark. Lee's basket with 4:06 on the clock handed the Devils a 26-16 deficit. Chowan continued to build on the momentum in the final minutes of the second quarter and headed into halftime with a 30-20 advantage.

The Hawks maintained a double digit lead for the entire third quarter. Crenshaw's layup at the 2:57 mark gave Chowan a 19 point lead, their largest of the game (44-25). With a 46-28 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, the Devils persistently chipped away at the deficit and pulled within six points (52-46) by the 1:46 mark using a three-pointer by Trisch. Chowan clung to a 54-48 advantage with 37 seconds left in the game and used two free throws by Courtni Williams to secure the 56-48 victory.

Chowan returns to action on January 4th as the Hawks travel to take on Shaw University. Tip-off for the CIAA crossover game is slated for 6:00pm.
