MILLER, BRENNAN, HAUSER LEAD BLOOMFIELD IN SWEEP OVER PHILADELPHIA

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bloomfield College softball team broke a five game losing streak with a crucial sweep over Philadelphia University.  In game one, Shannon Brennan hit a walk-off single in the eighth to give BC a 2-1 win and in game two Angela Hauser went 3-4 to support Stephanie Miller, who allowed just one hit over 5.1 innings.

In game one, Bloomfield (19-13, 9-7 CACC) used a new strategy with their pitching staff as Miller got the start in game one for the first time this season.  The sophomore lefty pitched the first three innings before giving way to Kirsten Wilson, who finished the final five frames.

Philadelphia scored an unearned run in the top of the third, but Bloomfield bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning when Hauser was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The game remained tied into the bottom of the eighth.  Hauser led off the home half of the inning with a single to left and was bunted to third by Bayley Legarreta.  A ground out to second by Janese Timmons advanced Hauser to third and set the stage for Brennan's heroics.  The senior first baseman drove a clean single through the middle to plate Hauser with the winning run.

Bloomfield had 10 hits in the game.  Lauren Bueno, Aubrey Orr and Hauser had two hits each.

Miller pitched the first three innings before turning the ball over to Wilson (12-4), who pitched the final five innings to pick up the win.

In game two, Bloomfield received a stellar performance by Miller (7-9) in the circle once again.  The sophomore lefty started the game, pitched the first three innings before giving way to Wilson again.  However, Miller had to re-enter after an injury to Wilson in the sixth inning.

Bloomfield started the scoring in the bottom of the third when Timmons singled to lead off the inning and then followed by stealing second and third.  A bunt single by Kelly Stites and a stolen base put runners at second and third.  A groundout by Bueno plated the first run and a single by Wilson gave BC a 2-0 lead.

After the Rams scored a run in the top of the fourth, Bloomfield scored two more in the bottom of the inning.

Hauser led off the inning with a single and Legarreta followed with a walk.  Brennan then walked to load the bases and Stites followed with an infield single to drive in Hauser for a 3-1 lead.  Bueno then delivered her second RBI groundout in as many innings to open BC's lead to 4-1.

The Bears weren't done there though as they scored three more in the following inning.  Legarreta drove in the fifth run with a single to left and Brennan drove in two crucial insurance runs when her single to left scored Timmons and Hauser to make it 7-1.

The Rams wouldn't go quietly though as they scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 7-4.  Bloomfield tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Hauser knocked in Orr with a two-out single.

Miller closed the door from there, retiring the side in order in the seventh to pick up her first save of the season.

Bloomfield's 11-hit attack was led by Hauser, who went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Legarreta had Bloomfield's other multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a run and an RBI.

Philadelphia managed just two hits against Miller and Wilson.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they take on Concordia in a makeup of a game that was rained out twice previously.  Game time is set for 1pm.
