WILSON'S NO-HITTER BOOSTS BC SOFTBALL TO 4-0

Titusville, FL - Kirsten Wilson fired her second career no-hitter and Stephanie Miller and Kelly Stites performed well in the circle in game one as the Bloomfield College softball team moved to 4-0 on the young season with a sweep of Penn State-Hazleton. Wilson became the first BC softball player to throw multiple no-hitters in her career during the Division II era.

The Bears topped Penn State-Hazleton 7-2 in game one and 13-0 in game two.

In game one, the Bears jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead as they batted around in the bottom of the second inning.

Melissa Yepez got the frame started with a single and Annette Daw followed with a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away.

Shannon Brennan delivered the first run of the game on an RBI ground out and Aubrey Orr and Wilson each plated runs with RBI singles.

Bloomfield scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth as well in support of Miller and Stites.

Stites was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third, Greta Coleman drove home Bayley Legarreta with a single in the fourth and Daw singled home Wilson with Bloomfield's final run in the sixth.

Miller (2-0) was tremendous in the circle for the first six innings as she scattered four hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out 10. Her 10 strikeouts set a career high, besting her total of seven, which she accomplished twice last year.

Stites came on to close the game in her first pitching appearance as a Bear. After allowing a leadoff double in the seventh, she retired the next three batters, two via strikeout.

Bloomfield had 12 hits in game one, with Wilson leading the way with a 3-4 effort.

Janese Timmons also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a run. In game two, the Bears put four runs on the board in the first inning and it was more than enough than Wilson would need for the game.

Yepez started the rally by reaching on an error and Daw followed with a single. After a walk to Wilson to load the bases, Legarreta knocked in the first run with a sacrifice fly.

Lauren Bueno drove in the second run with a single and Brennan delivered two more with a single of her own to make the score 4-0.

Bloomfield extended their lead to 5-0 when Daw singled home Timmons in the second and stretched that lead by one more run when Timmons scored on a groundout to second by Daw in the 5th.

The Bears broke the game open in the sixth when they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs.

Timmons, Yepez and Wilson each had RBI singles, Angela Hauser forced in a run with a bases loaded walk and Bueno doubled home two runs with a shot down the left field line.

The real story of the game though was Wilson, who was completely dominant in the circle.

One day after taking a no-hitter 6 2/3 innings against Concordia (Illinois), Wilson (2-0) was even better as she did not allow a single ball to leave the infield until a fly ball to left for the final out of the game.

Wilson finished with 13 strikeouts, two walks and a hit by pitch. She did not allow a batter to pass first base. Her first no-hitter came in Florida last season as well when she held Fisher College hitless in her first career start. On the season, Wilson has pitched 14 innings, has 22 strikeouts and has allowed just one hit.

In game two, Brennan was 4-4 with 2 RBIs and a run, Timmons was 3-4 with three runs and Wilson was 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Yepez, Daw and Bueno had two hits each.

The Bears return to action tomorrow with a triple header starting at 9am. They play two games against Waldorf College at 9am and then take on St. Mary of the Woods at 3pm.
