East Regional Powers NYIT and SCSU Defeat Wilmington Volleyball in Saturday Tri-Match

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to East Regional powers NYIT and Sothern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon, playing the tri-match in Pelz Gym on the campus of SCSU.

Set scores against NYIT were 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, and 6-25

Set scores against Southern Connecticut State were 23-25, 13-25, and 8-25.

The offense struggled to get going on Saturday for the Wildcats (6-12), as they hit .034 against NYIT (12-4) and .051 against SCSU (12-4).

The Wildcats were led by Brittany Ford's eight kills against the Bears, while Jill Braunsberg and Mandy Behiels added seven kills each. But the Wildcats committed 29 errors in the match, hurting their chances.

Defensively, the Wildcats and Bear each picked up eight total blocks in the match, led by Erin Bistany's two solo blocks and five block assists.  Addalyn Flores got to 19 digs while Miranda Shaw paced the offense with 18 assists.

In the nightcap, the Owls were able to out-dig the Wildcats, 51-37, resulting in a 17 difference in kills. The Owls hit .273 for the match, putting down 41 kills with 14 errors on 9 swings. The Wildcats put down 24 termination with 19 errors on 98 swings for a .051 attack percentage.

Braunsberg led the offense with five kills while Rebecca Rawlinson put down four attempts. Flores again led the back row with 12 digs while Shaw dished out a team high 13 assists as well. Rawlinson finished with a match high two solo blocks as well.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday night, as they head to South Division rival USciences in Philadelphia. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
