Richmond, Gilpin Combine for 41 as Bentley Shoots Down Bloomfield, 100-73

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thompson Collegiate) provided 21 points and nine assists, and senior forward Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) added 20 points, as Bentley University took care of Bloomfield College, 100-73, in the final of the Bentley Men's Basketball Tip-Off Classic Sunday at the Dana Center.

It was the second win of the season-opening weekend for the Falcons, who cruised past Goldey-Beacom College Saturday evening by 16, 104-88. Bloomfield, an NCAA Division II East Regional finalist last March, dipped to 0-2.

After falling behind by five early, Bentley seized control by outscoring the Bears 40-9 during a span of 11-and-a-half minutes. That made it a 48-22 game and the Falcons went into halftime up 23 at 50-27. That stretch included smaller runs of 11-0, 9-0, 9-0 and 11-2.

The 11-0, which turned a five-point deficit into a six-point lead, included six points from sophomore forward Peter Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) and five by Richmond. Four different players scored during the first 9-0 burst and the last five of the second 9-0 were scored by Blust.

Richmond and junior guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Reading HS) both connected beyond the arc during the 11-2 spurt.

In the second half, Bentley was never threatened with Bloomfield coming as close as 19 only once, and that was for just 21 seconds. The difference eventually peaked at 33 with about three minutes remaining.

Richmond, during his 21-point, 9-assist effort, did not commit a turnover in 30:15. He also made nine of 14 overall and sank three of five from three-point land. Gilpin made seven of his 12 attempts and made all five of his free throws.

Joining those two in double figures were Blust, with 13 off the bench, and sophomore guard Colton Lawrence (Myerstown, Pa./ECHO HS), with 12 points and eight boards. Freshman guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) added nine points without missing a shot in only 4:43.

Senior forward Kavione Green (Amityville, N.Y.) led Bloomfield with 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Bentley had a second straight outstanding shooting night, finishing at .563 overall, .464 from three and .833 from the foul line. Meanwhile, they limited the Bears to 35 percent, including just 10 of 40 in the opening half.

Bentley will open its Northeast-10 Conference slate on Wednesday with a 7:30 pm game at Stonehill College.
