BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's basketball team picked up their second consecutive conference victory Thursday evening when they defeated Concordia College, 61-45. Sophomore guard
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) netted15 points and provided a valuable spark off the bench. Senior, forward
Tierra Scott (Bear, D.E.) contributed her second consecutive double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Concordia's Jessica Rosabalo (Staten Island, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 23 points.
The Clippers got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 10-4 lead in the early going. After a timeout, the Bears energy level intensified with Bloomfield charging out to a 22-4 run sparked by their bench that contributed 20 points. Taylor ignited the Bears offense as she drilled 8 of her total points in the first half. Bloomfield dominated inside the paint, outscoring the Clippers 24-10 down low leading to a 34-20 advantage going into halftime.
The Bears came out of the break with a strong defensive mindset and held Concordia to just 35 percent shooting in the second stanza. Bloomfield expanded their lead to as many as nineteen after a
Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) layup made it 54-35 with 7:15 left to play. Smith ended her night with 11 points and 5 rebounds. The strong defensive performance protected the Bears' lead and guided them to the eventual North Division victory.
The majority of the Bears success came from their work around the basket, as they won the rebounding margin 41-35, and outscoring Concordia in the paint, 38-18. With the win, Bloomfield improved to 11-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action, and 13-8 overall. Concordia falls to 4-18 overall and 4-11 in CACC contests.
The Bears will return to action this Saturday, February 14, against Georgian Court University. Tip off is set for 1:00 pm. This Saturday is also Senior Day as the senior players for the Bears will be acknowledged and honored. Be sure to come out and show love and support.
