ALBANY, New York (November 22, 2019) – The No. 19 Stonehill College women's soccer team, who is the fourth-seeded team in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer East Region bracket, defeated Jefferson University, the fifth seed, Friday afternoon, 2-1, at Plumeri Sports Complex.

By the Numbers

  • Stonehill's (12-4-4, 8-1-4 NE10) freshman Emma Slade and junior Kayla Henry put the Skyhawks ahead with their fifth and 10th goals of the season, respectively with the goals.
  • Sophomore Camryn Thompson and junior Tess Erwin tallied the assists, while senior Kaitlin Brown picked up seven saves in the win.
  • Jefferson University (15-6, 11-1 CACC) saw MaryKate Ulmer score the lone goal for the Rams, while Hanna Glass registered the helper and Erin Tinneny recorded five saves.

How it Happened:

  • After a turnover in the midfield, Glass took a few touches to the left side outside the 18-yard box, and easily found Ulmer outside the arc at the top of the box. Ulmer took a one touch and sent the ball just under the crossbar finding the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage at 19:20.
  • Three minutes later, Emily Rosano played the ball inside the 18-yard box and the Rams defended it but Thompson was able to possess the ball and bring the ball down. Thompson sent a pass to Slade who was alone just outside the 18-yard box for a strike at the top right corner to tie the game at one, 1-1, at 22:17.

Stonehill followed the goal with their first corner of the game in the 38th minute of play, as Slade took a shot just outside the 18-yard box once again, but this time saved by Tinneny.
  • With just under four minutes remaining in the first half, Stonehill launched a corner kick from the right side and the Rams initially cleared the ball, but Erwin was there to put the ball back in the box for Henry who waited for the bounce to put the Skyhawks up 2-1 at 41:05.
  • Free kick in 50th minute of second half, at top left corner of 18 box but no opportunity.
  • In the 60th minute of the game, Henry sent a cross to Elizabeth Nerger, who connected on a strong strike, but Tinneny was in position for the catch.
  • The Rams saw a series of three shots and a corner kick in two minutes of play, but Brown was there to record two saves as the third shot went wide of the post.
  • Stonehill received a free kick in the 74th minute of play and Henry sent the shot just over the crossbar from about 25 yards out, outside the 18-yard box.
