PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - The Devils used a 22-4 run over the last 12:33 of the game to end the Bloomfield College Bears men's basketball team's season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Quarterfinal round on Saturday evening. Usciences advanced to the semifinals with a 61-51 victory over the Bears and improved to 24-4 on the year with their 14th straight victory. Bloomfield's 2014-2015 campaign came to a close at 11-16 overall after their 8th straight appearance in CACC post-season action.
USciences began the contest with a 19-9 lead in the opening period and led by ten (27-17) with 5:37 left. Bloomfield responded in the final five minutes with a 13-2 spurt capped by a jumper from senior guard,
Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to take a one-point advantage at the half, 30-29. Freshman forward,
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) buried a trey on the possession before giving the visitors their first lead of the game, 28-27 with 58 seconds left. Hall and Davidson combined for 18 of the Bears first half points and with a 9 point offering from junior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) Bloomfield found themselves in prime position to upset the CACC South Division's number one seed. Garrett Kerr (Avalon, N.J.) the CACC Player of the Year, was held in check with just four opening period points.
Bloomfield carried their momentum into the second half, outscoring the Devils 15-8 to lead 45-37 on a Hall three-pointer. The Bears still led by eight (47-39) with 12:33 left when the Devils began their comeback run to seize control and close out the game. A bucket from Sho Da-Silva (Moorestown, N.J.) and five straight points from Kerr cut the Bloomfield edge to two (48-46) with 8:43 left. Freshman
Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) drilled a baseline three-pointer to put the Bears back up by five (51-46) but those proved to be the last points the visitors would score for the contest. A layup from Wes Kerr
(Avalon, N.J.) drew the Devils even at 51-51 with 4:33 remaining. A BC turnover resulted in two more points for the Devils and put them up for good as the home team capitalized on the momentum swing watching the Player of the Year then force a steal and drive for a dunk to make the score 55-51 with 1:58 left. The Devils shot free throws to keep the Bears at bay and completed the game with another steal as Wes Kerr punctuated the finale on a dunk with 13 seconds left to make the score 61-51.
Davidson led the Bears with 17 points while Blue and Hall finished the game with 15 and 13 points respectively. Blue finished with a double-double adding 10 rebounds to go along with his 15 points. On the Devils side of the ball, Garret Kerr and Da-Silva each recorded a double–double with Kerr netting 19 points and 15 rebounds and Da-Silva scoring 12 points and a career high 13 rebounds.
Neither team shot well on the day but the Bears held USciences to a season-low 33.3 percent shooting from the field. The Devils bench outscored the Bears bench 19-0 and they saw a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding Bloomfield, 49-38 which included a 19-6 advantage on the offensive glass, resulting in a 15-9 margin in the second chance points. The Bears committed 17 turnovers on the day leading to an 18-2 advantage for the Devils in points off turnovers.
