Host of Firebirds Pack the Score Sheet in 89-61 Victory over the Warriors

WASHINGTON, DC- Seven Firebirds made it onto the scoreboard with five in the double figures, to secure the win over the Warriors, Tuesday evening at the UDC Gymnasium. UDC improved their record to 2-1 and Nyack fell 0-1 on the season. Latavia Jackson, Aiyana Ellis, and Tori Williams all posted double-doubles with Jackson leading all scorers with 21 points and Ellis leading the floor with 16 rebounds. Ellis also added four blocks and two steals. The Firebirds shot 46.6% from the field, 25.9% from behind the arc, and 48.3% from the foul line to make up their highest-scoring game of the season so far. UDC opened up the lead pretty early getting on the scoreboard first, but the majority of their points came in the latter part of the first quarter. They extended that lead from 12-18 points going into the half. Kensley Benjamin scored five of her 15 points in the second quarter going 2-3 from the field and 1-2 from the free-throw line. Jackson had her best quarter coming off halftime with eight points to lead the floor. She went a perfect 3-3 from the field 2-2 from the foul line. Not far behind was Williams who also had her best quarter posting six points for the Firebirds. 

UDC would finish out the game with their highest-scoring quarter of 25 points spread across six different Firebirds, which included Halia Ellis. Ellis also had a game-high eight assists to help lead the Firebirds to their second win of the season and first on their home court.  Up next UDC (2-1) will host Millersville in the UDC gymnasium on Friday, November 19, at 5:00 pm.
