MEN'S BASKETBALL CLOSES OUT THE SEASON WITH A WIN ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/2/19) The Dominican College men’s basketball team finished the 2018-2019 regular season with a win over Nyack College 79-61.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/2/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team finished the 2018-2019 regular season with a win over Nyack College 79-61. DC finishes the regular season at 20-7 (15-4 CACC) and will be the second seed in the CACC tournament. The Warriors finish the regular season at 6-21 (5-14 CACC).
Before the game, the Chargers celebrated their seniors who were playing the final home game of their career. Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.), Koree Hargraves (Teaneck, N.J.), and Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) were recognized before the opening tip. Also, the Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Scholarship award winner was announced and the recipient was junior Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.)
DC opened up a 16-point lead over the Warriors in the opening half. The Warriors cut the deficit to 12-points before the first half was over.
Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the Chargers in the first half with 10 points. Garcia added seven points, four rebounds, and two assists in the opening half. DC hit five of nine shots from three-point range.
Jah-Meer McDuffie scored six points for the Warriors including going four for four from the free-throw line.
DC continued to roll in the second half and extended their lead out to their largest of the game which was 22. DC never lost the lead from the beginning of the game and closed out the 79-61 win over the Warriors.
Ginyard finished the game with 19 points and added four rebounds and three steals and two assists. Sayon Charles scored 11 points and recorded five rebounds for DC.
Hargraves, Garcia, and Gardener recorded nine points. Garcia added seven rebounds. Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) added 14 rebounds to lead DC.
For the Warriors, Gemaal Davis led the way with 14 points and recorded four rebounds. McDuffie finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
DC will be back in action on Tuesday, March 5th when they host Holy Family University for the Quarterfinal round of the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament at 5:30 PM.
