Five Purple Knights Reach Double Figures As Bridgeport Men's Hoops Defeats Bloomfield, 79-68
Darian David Leads UB With 27 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Darian David (Bronx. N.Y.) scored a game-high 27 points to lead a balanced University of Bridgeport offensive attack as five Purple Knights reached double-figure scoring as UB posted a 79-68 home non-conference win over the Bloomfield College Deacons on Wednesday night. Bridgeport is now 2-1 on the year, and Bloomfield remains winless in the early going of the 2012-13 season at 0-3.
Joking David in double figures were senior Dezmon Hickman (Collinsville, Ill.) with 14 points, junior Jahmill Jenkins (Elizabeth, N.J.) with 12 points and senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) plus junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia), who each netted 11 points.
Howard recorded a double-double as he grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Jenkins dished out a game-best six assists and added three steals for the winners. Simic fell just shy of a double-double pulling down eight boards.
Marvin Williams led the Deacons with 17 points.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday evening as they travel to the Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College. Bridgeport takes on the host Chargers at 8:00 p.m. on November 17.
