BEARS HOLD OFF EAGLES, 87-55 TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN LEAGUE PLAY

Waterbury, Conn. - Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) continued her outstanding play with a 22-point performance that led the Bears over Post University, 87-55 Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center. Bloomfield completed the season sweep of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rival and improved to a perfect 16-0 in league play.

The victory also secured the second twenty-win season in Coach Dave Caputo's three-year tenure as the Bears now sit at 20-5 overall. The Eagles fell to 2-22 overall and 2-13 in conference action.

Smith recorded her eighth 20+ game of the year as she shot 8 of 12 from the floor, including 2 of 5 from deep and 4 of 4 at the line, while also registering three boards, a pair of steals and an assist. Senior Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) posted 11 points (5-11 FG, 1-5 3FG) and grabbed season-high, eight steals. Freshman Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, M.D.) netted 10 points, going 5 of 6 in her third consecutive start of the season and dished out a career-high five assists.

Georgia Black came of the bench and led Post U with 11 points, while Nicole Sheloski added a team-high, 8 rebounds.

Bloomfield traded buckets with the Eagles in the first quarter as each team exchanged the lead until the visitors came away with a 20-17 advantage at the end of the period. The Bears never relinquished their edge the rest of the way and held Post U to just five field goals in the second quarter and went into the half up 43-27.

The end of the third quarter saw the CACC's only unbeaten team with a 68-41 lead after Smith buried a shot from beyond the arc off a dish from Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) The fourth quarter proved to be a mere formality with the Bears keeping their quest for a perfect league record alive with only three games remaining in the regular season.

The regionally ranked Bears set sights onto their next matchup on Saturday, February 13 when they face Holy Family University. Bloomfield looks for payback after being unceremoniously ousted from the playoffs in the first round at home last season by the Tigers. Tip off for the 'Think Pink' Game is slated for 1:00 pm.
