Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

POOR SHOOTING PLAGUES BEARS IN 73-63 LOSS TO LIU POST

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Shooting just 36.9% from the field for the game, the Bloomfield College women's basketball team fell, 73-63, to the Pioneers of LIU Post on Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreational Center in Brookville. The setback evens the Bears record at 1-1 on the season while LIU Post improves to 2-1 with the victory.

Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Week 1 Honor Roll player, Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) went 4-for-18 from the field on the evening, including 2-for-8 from 3-point range and Bloomfield found themselves down eight (38-31) at the first half break. Freshman De'Andra Humphries (Boston, Mass) kept the Bears in the contest, netting nine points in the opening frame on 4-of-6 shooting while the rest of the Bloomfield squad went 8-for-27 for a combined 36.4%. On the other side, LIU Post shot at a blistering 60.9% clip in the first half led by Chelsea Williams' (Copiague, N.Y.) 12 points in the stanza.

The Bears defensively forced 16 first half turnovers with senior Tierra Scott (Bear, D.E.) and junior Ariel Wilson each picking up three steals but the 22 missed field goals left Bloomfield with just 11 points off turnovers. LIU ruled the boards with a 26-11 advantage in period one and chipped in eight 2nd chance points.

In the second half the Bears would make a charge capped off by a fast break layup by sophomore guard Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) to cut the deficit to two (42-40). Bloomfield, who never led in the contest, could not get any closer as the Pioneers cut down on the turnovers and did just enough to keep the Bears at bay.

Humphries closed out the game with her best performace as a Bear to date, going 7-for-11 from the field for a team-high eighteen points. Smith finished the match with thirteen points on 4-for-18 shooting from the field while Wilson and Taylor went a combined 8-for-20 to end with ten points each. Scott led the Bears on the glass, snagging ten rebounds to go along with seven points and three steals.

On the Pioneers side of the ball, Williams led all scorers with twenty-two points and chipped in four steals. Junior center Nyasia Davis poured in a double-double, grabbing a game-high fifteen rebounds to go along with ten points in the LIU Post victory.

Next on the ledger for the Bears, they will travel to the nation's capitol to face the Firebirds of the University of District of Columbia (UDC) on Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 pm. UDC is asking that their opponents bring a donation of can foods to UDC when we play.  We'd like to try to get a big donation together for Coach Caputo to bring down to UDC, so please consider donating cans or non-perishable foods today and tomorrow.  There will be a donation bin outside the gym, in Franklin Residence Hall and in the CSLE.

We definitely would like to represent Bloomfield College well in this endeavor while also helping the needy in the DC area through Martha's Table during the holidays.
Every little bit helps, so if you could donate any can food, please stop by the gym and drop it off Thursday and Friday.
