Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its season-opening trip to South Carolina with a 7-6 loss to the Dominican (N.Y.) Chargers on Sunday afternoon. UB trailed in the contest 7-0 and battled back with six unanswered runs and had the tying run on second base with two outs in the final inning. The Purple Knights are 0-4 on the young season, and Dominican leaves South Carolina at 2-2.
Junior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) had three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for the Purple Knights on Sunday.
Freshman Bobby Pollock (Coram, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs batted in on Sunday, and classmate Alex Martinez (Lawrence, Mass.) and sophomore Vincent DeRubeis (Trumbull, Conn.) knocked in the other UB runs against the Chargers.
Up next, the Bridgeport baseball team is slated to open its new field in Seaside Park this Saturday, March 2 with a doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
