BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield College women's basketball team welcomed Chestnut Hill College to The Den for a pivotal Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) inter-division battle Saturday afternoon. The Bears came away with a hard-fought, 85-74 victory over the Griffins and improved to 8-9 overall and 8-2 in conference play
Senior forward,
Zhane Robinson (Newark, NJ) turned in a tremendous performance with a game-high double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds. Junior forward,
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) chipped in her own double-double with 14 points and 11 boards as the Bears saw four players in double-figures on a balanced offensive attack day.
The Griffins flew out to an 8-2 lead to open the game but Bloomfield quickly carved out a 9-0 run for their first edge of the ball game. The Bears had a 13-12 advantage by the end of the quarter but Chestnut Hill chipped away and thanks to three consecutive 3-pointers in the second frame, the visitors built an 8-point advantage (31-23). As the 2
nd quarter wrapped up, the Griffins' junior forward, Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, NJ) scored her 1,000
th career point on a layup down low and led her team into the locker room up, 37-35.
The teams exchanged blows in a gritty 3
rd quarter and the visitors upped their lead to four, 57-53. The fourth quarter came down to execution as the Bears battled hard on the boards for second-chance opportunities that ultimately distanced them from the Griffins. Bloomfield enjoyed a 54-38 margin in rebounds, which included a, 22-8 advantage on the offensive boards.
The Bears hit the road for their for next contest on Wednesday, Jan. 24
th when they face Dominican College. The CACC North Division contest is slated for a 5:30 pm start in Orangeburg, NY.
