BEARS ROAR OVER LIONS IN HOME OPENER, 4-0

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's soccer team picked up their first win of 2017 in a, 4-0 showing against Lincoln University (Pa.) at Foley Field under the lights Tuesday evening. A thirty-minute rain delay couldn't cool off the Bears as Emira Sela (Staten Island, NY) registered a shutout in her first start of the season. Bloomfield evened their overall mark to 1-1 on the year while dropping the visiting Lions to 1-2 overall.

The Bears defense played an outstanding game and didn't allow a single shot from Lincoln during the opening period of play. Ciara Alston (Carteret, NJ), Jessica Kenny (Staten Island, NY), Malinda Heffernan (Staten Island, NY) and Alison Corino (Brick, NJ) anchored the back line and kept the pressure off of Sela as the Bloomfield offense pressed forward. In the 20th minute of play, senior Simone McEnough (Neptune, NJ) found the back of the net on a pass from freshman, Brigid Dwyer (Brick, NJ) to put the home team up 1-0. At the 9:23 mark the officials called a halt to the game as the skies over Foley Field opened up and the teams went for cover. Play resumed after the rain delay and the Bears settled for the 1-0 advantage heading into intermission.

After taking 13 shots in the opening frame, Bloomfield became more efficient in the second half, scoring three goals on twelve shots. Lisa Parello (Staten Island, NY) scored her first goal of 2017 in the 60th minute and Ashley Ramirez (Wayne, NJ) tickled the net with her first collegiate goal off another feed from Dwyer at the 82:58 minute mark. Senior Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, NY) capped the Bears highest scoring output since Oct 1, 2013 on her first goal of the season with less than two minutes to play (88:05).

Bloomfield's next challenge will be Saturday afternoon when the Tigers of Holy Family University come to town to square off in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at 1:30 pm. Both the men's and women's teams will battle on the 9th in a CACC double-header at Foley Field.
