BEARS KNOCK OFF POST, 81-48 IN CACC NORTH DIVISION BATTLE

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's basketball team extended their winning streak to 4 games with an 81-48 victory over Post University Tuesday evening. Sophomore guard, Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) continued her hot hand improving the Bears Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record to 13-3 and 15-8 overall. After dropping 29 points on Saturday against Georgian Court, Smith followed up with a 22-point performance on Tuesday, shooting 11-for-16 from the floor.  In a post game interview head coach David Caputo mentioned the best part of Smith's performance was that she did not commit a single turnover. Junior guard, Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, V.A.) contributed 13 points to go along with her 6 rebounds. The CACC Defensive Player of the Week also snatched 6 steals on the evening.

The Eagles stuck around early on until the Bears went on a 19-6 spurt to help pull away with a 35-19 lead with 2:34 left to play in the first half.  Bloomfield found success in their defense, forcing 17 opening period turnovers that they converted into 27 points. The Bears also found success in the paint, scoring 28 points down low. Senior center, Tierra Scott (Bear, D.E.) played a big role in the paint as she scored all 10 of her points in the first half helping Bloomfield go into the break up 40-24.

The Bears roared out the break on a 19-6 spurt to bolster a 59-30 advantage with 14:56 left to play in the second stanza. Smith and Wilson did most of their damage in the second half, leading a strong offensive attack. Smith scored 12 of her total points (22) in the second frame and Wilson scored 11 of hers in the period while shooting 3-of-4 from three-point range. Bloomfield as a team shot 50 percent from the field and cruised down the stretch for the North Division victory.

Coach Caputo was satisfied with his team's strong offense showing, but he was most pleased with his squad playing a full 40 minutes of outstanding defense. The Bears held Post University (6-21, 6-12 CACC) to just 32 percent shooting from the field and forced a total of 31 turnovers, something Coach Caputo hopes to see more of as his team gears up to defend their CACC Championship in the playoffs.

The Bears next test comes on Thursday by way of a postponed matchup against Philadelphia University at home. The tip off is set for 5:30pm and we invite all to come out and support the Bears as the regular season winds down and March Madness is on the horizon.
