ST. MARY OF THE WOODS GETS BY THE BEARS, 9-4 IN FLORIDA

TITUSVILLE, FLA. - Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls, P.A.) and Mariah Frazier (Port Angles, W.A.) both belted home runs but the Bears fell 9-4 to Saint Mary of the Woods College in their first game of the day Saturday afternoon at the Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, Fla. The setback dropped Bloomfield's record to 1-2 overall and starting pitcher, Stephanie Miller (Temecula, Calif.) to 0-1 on the season. The Pomeroy's improved to 2-0 on the year after defeating Chestnut Hill College earlier in the day.

The game got off to an exciting start as Wilson sent a blast over the right-center fence into the parking lot in the top of the first inning only to be answered in the bottom by Marlee Yeager with a shot of her own to tie the game at 1-1.

Frazier's long-ball came in the third frame after Melissa Yepez (Paramount, Calif.) singled to right and Bloomfield took a 3-1 lead. Miller got off to a shaky start in the bottom of the third after hitting the lead-off batter. St. Mary of the Woods' offense exploded as Yeager stepped back up to the plate with the bases loaded and launched a grandslam over the left-center wall after the Bears' pitcher had walked two hitters.

Down 5-3 heading into the top of the 4th, junior transfer, Faith Apolskis (Soquel, Calif.) went yard with a solo shot to left for her first of the season and trimmed the Bloomfield deficit to 5-4. Miller held the Pomeroy's scoreless in the bottom of the inning but Yeager seemed to be dialed in all day and scored on a sac-fly after reaching on a error by Frazier to make it 6-4.

St. Mary of the Woods tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Yeager went 3-for-4 with four runs and seven RBI on the day. Apolskis finished the game two-for-two with a walk, a run and an RBI. Wilson and Frazier both went one-for-four on the day with three RBI between them.

On the hill, Miller pitched a complete game, giving up ten hits while Stephanie Richardson (1-0) picked up the win for the Pomeroys giving up four runs on four hits.

COACH CORLEY'S COMMENTS:
"Florida is a place where we are constantly trying to get better each game and I think we are learning important lessons about ourselves. We learn about believing and executing the game plan and the mentality we need to have in order to be successful."

The Bears get set to play their second game of the day in a non-conference match-up against familiar Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member, Chestnut Hill College.
