Early UDC Pressure not Enough to Stop Wilmington Flurry

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team faced off against a strong Wilmington University side in a regional match at the UDC field.

A strong start by the Firebirds resulted in an inability to defend Wilmington pressure, especially in the third quarter, resulting in an away win for Wilmington.

Zander Torres scored two goals in the first quarter to help UDC to a 3-2 advantage at the end of the period. A high energy and confident start to the game by the Firebirds was soon halted by the Wildcats who scored 4 goals in the 2nd quarter to UDC's 1 goal. The score at half time it was 6-4 Wilmington's favor.

The third and the fourth quarters saw an aggressive approach from both teams; determination and intensity made it a cagey affair.

Giovanni Marino and Keeshawn Bell each scored 2 goals to extend Wilmington's lead to 11-4. UDC Freshman goalkeeper Matt Miller made some fantastic saves but the scoreline does not reflect his efforts.

The Firebirds did their best to overturn the result but it was not to be their day. Eric Boco and Joseph Cote both scored well-worked goals, however, the game ended in a 15-8 loss.

Up next for the Firebirds is Davis & Elkins at home this coming Wednesday at 12:00pm.
