Volleyball Sweeps Goldey-Beacom To Open 2019 Season
Bridgeport Tops GBC, 27-25, 26-24, 25-14
Bridgeport. Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened the 2019 season in fine style at Hubbell Gym on Monday afternoon, as the Purple Knights swept a non-conference match from Goldey-Beacom College (1-3), 27-25, 26-24, 25-14.
Seniors Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) and Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the UB offense on the season opener as they each reached double-digit kills, with Amanda posting 11 with a .375 hitting percentage and Emily contributing 10.
Sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded eight kills on the day with a .429 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) had an excellent match directing the Bridgeport offense to the tune of 37 assists, and she had an excellent day on defense, to finish with a double-double, leading the Purple Knights with 12 digs.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) also finished with double-figure digs, as they each notched 11 apiece. Jones led Bridgeport in services aces in the win with three on Monday afternoon.
Senior Makayla Maroney (Parker, Colo.) played well defensively at the net on Monday leading Bridgeport in blocks with a total of four, including one solo stuff.
Up next, the Purple Knights will play their first road contest of 2019 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts on Wednesday night to face Assumption College. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
