BEARS BUMP OFF DOMINICAN FOR FIRST PLACE IN CACC NORTH DIVISION

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Powered by a double-double from senior forward Iman Williams (Sherveport, La.) Bloomfield women's basketball bumped off the Chargers of Dominican College to remain unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action Tuesday evening. The battle of the CACC North Division's previously undefeated teams left the Bears standing alone atop the standings at 4-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall. The Chargers fell to 3-1 in league matches and 4-5 overall in 2015.

Williams posted a season-high 19 points (6-9 FG, 7-7 FT) and 10 rebounds in thirty-two minutes of playing time. Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) added 12 points (4-16 FG, 4-5 3-FG) 4 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals for Bloomfield while senior Ariel Wilson netted 7 points (2-7 FG, 3-4 FT) to go along with a pair of steals and assists. Center Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) grabbed 8 rebounds for the Bears including 7 off the defensive glass and also swatted away two shots.

Starter, Rebecca Rabeiro and Aliyah Alston off the bench paced Dominican with 12 and 11 points respectively while Deja Gabbidon pulled down a team-high, eight rebounds.

Bloomfield jumped out in front 10-6 after a three-point play from Williams but the Chargers galloped back to close the deficit to 12-10 by the end of the first quarter.

Dominican carried the momentum into the second frame as midway thru they found themselves up six (21-15) after an Alston jumper. Bloomfield would whittle the deficit away as a pair of Williams' free throws just a minute later put the CACC North Division leaders back up 22-21. A layup by freshman Brianna Carrington (Baltimore, M.D.) closed out the scoring for the second quarter and the Bears enjoyed a 30-25 edge heading into the break.

Bloomfield came out of the locker room energized and a bucket in the paint from junior guard, Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) gave the home squad their largest lead of the game, 37-27 but the Chargers weren't ready to pack it in just yet as they closed out the third quarter with an 8-2 spurt.

The final frame saw Dominican draw as close as two (41-39) after back-to-back layups in the paint with 7:12 remaining on the clock. The Bears wasted no time widening the gap as they scored the next 6 points capped by a Williams' jumper with 4:17 to go. The visitors mounted one last charge pulling to within five (49-44) with a little over a minute left but the Bears closed the door converting four free throws down the stretch and sent Dominican home with their first league loss in 2015.

Bloomfield outshot the Chargers, 36.7 percent (18-49) to 30.9 percent (17-55), including 44.4 percent (4-9) to 10.5 percent (2-19) from long range. The Bears held advantages in the paint (28-22), on the glass (41-33) and in second chance points (15-5).

The Bears return to action Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to face Nyack in another CACC North Division battle. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, from the Bloomfield College athletic department by liking the Bears on Facebook and following the Bears on Twitter or Instagram @GO_BCBears.
