NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 19, 2019) -- Post University women's cross country/women's ice hockey/women's track & field star Kendall Fitzgerald on Wednesday was named the 2018-19 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. It marks the second-consecutive year Fitzgerald took home the league's top female award combining athletics and academics.

Fitzgerald will now move on for consideration for both the regional and national Division II scholar-athlete of the year awards that will be handed out by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) later on this summer. Fitzgerald will first be considered in the voting for the D2CCA East Region Award, and if she were to win that honor, she would become one of eight finalists for the national award. During the 2017-18 campaign, Fitzgerald not only won the CACC award, but also took home East Region honors from the D2CCA.

The nominating and voting for the CACC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year Award was conducted by the league's 14 sports information directors, while the voting for the D2CCA awards will be conducted by the 24 conference commissioners throughout Division II.

Fitzgerald once again was an athletic standout for the Eagles in 2018-19. On the cross country race course, she won the CACC Women's Cross Country Individual Championship for the third-consecutive season, while then advancing to the NCAA Division II East Region Championship, which she finished first in to advance to the Division II National Championship Race. By winning the CACC race, she earned the CACC Runner-of-the-Year Award for the third time in as many seasons as well. Fitzgerald joins former University of the Sciences Chrissy Woodruff as the only three-time individual championships in CACC women's cross country history, as she has a chance to become the only four-time winner in conference history in 2019.

Fitzgerald is also a captain a three-time letterman on the Post women's ice hockey team. Her being able to bounce back and forth between cross country races and hockey games on consecutive days is the stuff of legend and has been highlighted by national outlets such as NCAA Champion Magazine.

Fitzgerald also competes on the school's track & field team, as she was named the CACC Women's Track Athlete of the Year in 2018 after capturing first-place honors in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the 2018 conference championship meet.

Fitzgerald's success is not just limited to athletics, as she also excels in the classroom. The junior from Kamloops, British Columbia, boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 in her major of biology. Fitzgerald is a two-time CACC All-Academic Team honoree in both women's cross country and women's track & field, including earning honors during the 2018-19 academic year. She was named a Google Cloud/CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American in cross country/track & field in 2018, and is a nominee for that award once again in 2019.
