NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 25, 2018) -- Post University cross country/track & field standout Kendall Fitzgerald on Monday was named the 2017-18 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. It marks the third year in a row a Post female student-athlete earned the prestigious honor, as former volleyball standout Skylar German won it two years in a row in 2016 and 2017.

For being named the CACC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Fitzgerald is now eligible for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. That award will be announced by the national organization later this summer.

Fitzgerald is a three-sport standout for the Eagles, as she is not only star on the race course and track, but also as a member on the school's women's ice hockey team. 

During the cross country season, Fitzgerald was named the 2017 CACC Runner of the Year for capturing first place at the conference's cross country championship at White Clay Creek State Park in late October. The sophomore won the award and the individual championship for the second-consecutive season, as she did the same as a rookie in 2016. Fitzgerald went on to place second at the NCAA Division II East Region Championship and compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship in late November.

On the track, Fitzgerald was named the 2018 CACC Women's Track Athlete of the Year after capturing the individual title in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the league championship in early May. She earned All-Region honors from the USTFCCCA in the 5,000, as she posted the second fastest time in the region in the event (17:32.83).

On the ice, Fitzgerald was third on her team in points and was named to the NEWHA All-Sportsmanship Team. She also served as team captain for the Eagles.

The Kamloops, British Columbia native sports an impressive 3.98 cumulative grade point average in her major of biology. She was named to the 2018 CACC All-Academic Team, while also earning 2017 All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA. Fitzgerald was also a 2017 ACHA All-America Scholar.
