PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (November 29, 2018) -- Holy Family University senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) could now add All-American to her already impressive career resume after the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 37^th All-America teams for NCAA Division II women's volleyball earlier this week. Wassel, the AVCA East Region Player of the Year, was selected to the third team.  She is the first player in program history to achieve All-America honors from the AVCA.
 
"Our program is so proud of Chase's AVCA All-America recognition," said head coach Jeff Rotondo. "Over the course of her four year journey here, we have always known she had All-America talent and potential. After last year's loss to Caldwell in the CACC Semifinals, Chase set a goal to win conference and earn the CACC Player of the Year title. Her plan thankfully didn't stop there, as she continued on to help this program have a historic season; finishing in the East Region finals, and garnering that Player of the Year title along with many other accolades. As phenomenal of a players as she is, her leadership, selflessness, and character will be what staff and teammates remember most. She had a huge impact on our culture, and helped instill in our underclassmen the hard-work, toughness, and servant leadership required to be a champion on and off the court. We can not be happier for Chase that she has been recognized as one of the best in the country!"
 
Wassel was recently named AVCA East Region Player of the Year and was selected to the All-East Region first team.  She has already been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year as well as the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) East Region Player of the Year this postseason.
 
It was a career-year for the three-time All-CACC selection as Wassel capped her senior season with a career-high 644 kills setting a new single season program record.
 
Her 4.92 kills per set along with her 644 total kills are second most in NCAA Division II.  Wassel also leads the nation with 74 service aces; a career-high.  She finished the year tying her career-high with 391 digs and set a new career-high with 57 blocks.  During the course of the season she was named the CACC Player of the Week six times. 
 
Wassel finished her career as the program's all-time leader with 1,992 kills and is fifth all-time with 1,501 digs.  She is only one of three players in program history to record 1,000 kills and digs in a career.  Wassel also totaled 202 career aces; third most in the program record books.
 
It was a historic season for Holy Family as the Tigers captured their first CACC Championship and received the program's first bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament.  Holy Family went on to advance to the East Region Final; the first CACC team to do so in women's volleyball.  The Tigers also won a program record 31 matches (31-6, 18-1 CAC) and had a program record 23-match winning streak entering the East Region final.
 
Wassel was named the CACC Tournament Most Valuable Player and later selected to the East Region All-Tournament team.
