Post's Skylar German Earns Second-Straight CACC Volleyball Player-of-the-Year Award

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 16, 2015) -- Post University standout Skylar German on Monday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Year for the second season in a row, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara.

The junior middle hitter from Kansas City, Mo., who also garnered a spot on the All-CACC First-Team, was joined by three other individuals who racked up major awards, including teammate Brianna Root who earned the league's rookie-of-the-year honor. Chestnut Hill College's Regina Trabosh as named the defensive player of the year, while Philadelphia University's Tim Moyer was tabbed as the BSN Sports CACC Coach of the Year.

German earned the league's highest award after leading the CACC in hitting percentage (.355) during the 2015 regular season. She currently ranks second in kills (356), third in kills per set (3.49), seventh in blocks per set (0.94) and first in total points (447.0).

She hit .350 or better in 17 matches this season, including a season-high .923 with 12 kills in a win over Nyack College on Oct. 29. German logged double-figure kills in all but five matches, including posting 21 and 27 in back-to-back wins against Southern New Hampshire (Sept. 15) and Caldwell University (Sept. 17). She also posted five-or-more total blocks in 10 matches, while registering a season-best seven on two occasions.

Root was named the rookie of the year after she produced a strong debut season in the setter's role. She led the CACC with 1,146 assists and 10.51 assists per set. The Bristol, Conn., native posted 35-or-more assists in 17 matches, including 10 with at least 40. Her season-high was a 61-mark in the win over SNHU.

Both German and Root played a major role in Post earning a share of the CACC North Division Championship and the upcoming conference tournament's No. 1 overall seed. The Eagles claimed the regular season divisional crown a year after winning the conference title to reach the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Trabosh locked up the league's defensive player-of-the-year honor after pacing the conference in digs and digs per set with 664 and 5.77, respectively. She also ranks in the top-10 nationally in total digs. Trabosh, a junior libero from Norristown, Pa., logged double-digit digs in all but two matches, while posting a season-best mark of 45 in a five-set win over Georgian Court University on Oct. 7.

Moyer was named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year after he guided PhilaU to a 16-3 conference record and the South Division Championship in his first season leading the program. The Rams posted a 20-6 overall record during the regular season.

The other major award handed out on Monday was the Team Sportsmanship Award, which was given to Nyack for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, character and dedication in helping to grow the sport at the conference level.

Root and Trabosh joined German on the All-CACC First-Team. The trio was part of a nine-member unit, which also included Samantha Rios (Libero, Bloomfield College), Kelsie Blue (Middle Blocker, Georgian Court), Corinne Justus (MB, Philadelphia), Valerie Bermudez (Outside Hitter, Bloomfield), Chelsea Hughes (OH, Philadelphia) and Katrina Janssen (OH, Caldwell).

A new feature during the 2015 volleyball season was the addition of a Third-Team All-CACC, and eight members made up that group. The third-team was comprised of Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa (L, Georgian Court), Shelby Henderson (L, Wilmington), Kelsey Blankerts (MB, Caldwell), Emily Koehler (MB, Chestnut Hill), Taryn Auyong (OH, Caldwell), Hailey Griffin (OH, Post), Alex Siolos (OH, Wilmington) and Natalie Stewart (S, Holy Family University).

The announcement of the major awards and all-conference honorees comes a day prior to the start of the 2015 CACC Volleyball Championship. The tournament begins Tuesday with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals on Friday and the championship final on Saturday. The award winners will be recognized and honored at the CACC Volleyball Championship Banquet on Thursday night on the Georgian Court campus in Lakewood, N.J.
