Four CACC Athletes Earn Daktronics Volleyball All-East Region Honors

NEW HAVEN, CONN (December 4, 2012) – Four Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball players have earned Daktronics Volleyball All-East Region Honors.  Wilmington's  Kaite Shorter (Pasadena, Md.) earned first team honors while Caldwell's Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) and Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) were named to the second team.  Wilmington's Whitney Ranger (Ventura, Calif.) was also named to the second team.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two Daktronics All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced in December. This year marks the seventh year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball All-Region and All-American teams.

Wimington's  Kaite Shorter (Pasadena, Md.), is the first player in program history to be named to the Daktronics All-East Region first team.  The junior middle blocker was also named All-Region last month by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).  Shorter helped lead the Wildcats to the CACC Tournament Championship match as the South Division's No. 1 seed and a 28-6 overall record.

Katie also became the first Wildcat to earn the CACC Player of the Year award since 2004 and earned first team All-CACC accolades after being named as the CACC Player of the Week on September 17 and again on October 24.

Caldwell College volleyball players Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) and Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) were named to the Daktronics Division II Volleyball all-East Region second team. McDonough is a repeat selection on the Daktronics all-Region team, while this is the first all-Region award for Del Cid.

A senior outside hitter, McDonough was named to the All-CACC first team for the second straight year after registering 373 kills and 513 digs. This season she posted 23 double-doubles while tallying 10 or more digs in 29 of Caldwell's 34 matches. The 2011 CACC Player of the Year, McDonough made the AVCA and Daktronics All-East Region teams last season, and received All-Region honorable mention from the AVCA last month.  She helped Caldwell win CACC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2011, earning tournament MVP honors both seasons. A four-year starter for the Cougars, McDonough is Caldwell's  All-time leader in kills with 1,226, and ranks second with 1,472 digs.

Del Cid, a sophomore libero, earned a spot on the All-CACC second team after leading the conference in digs with 622. Jaclyn registered 10 or more digs in all but three matches, reaching 20 digs 12 times. Del Cid notched a career-high 33 digs in a five-set win over Pace on Sept. 15, and had 30 digs against Texas A&M International on Sept. 21. She also led the team in service aces with 38.

Caldwell, finished the season 20-14 and made the CACC Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.

Domincan's Whitney Ranger (Ventura, Calif.) also earned second team honors.  This is her first career appearance on the Daktronics All-Region squad.

The senior setter led the Chargers and ranked third in the CACC in assists and assists per set.  Whitney also ranked fourth in the conference in service aces and service aces per set.  The Ventura native was also selected to the All-CACC first team this season and was previously an All-CACC second team selection in 2011 and 2010, and earned Honorable Mention honors in 2009.

Dominican wrapped up their 2012 season with a 26-8 mark overall and 19-0 in the conference.
