#1 WilmU & #2 Jefferson Advance to WTEN Championship Final

WILMINGTON, Del. (October 20, 2023) -- The top-two seeds were victorious in the semfinals on Friday and thus it will be three years in a row that Wilmington University and Thomas Jefferson University will meet up in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Championship Final. The 2023 tournament final will be held Saturday at 12 p.m., at the Delcastle Tennis Center. Wilmington has won the previous two meetings in the league final.

The No. 1 Wildcats got the semifinals started on Friday with an impressive 4-1 win over fourth-seeded Post University and then the second semifinal was a barn burner with No. 2 Jefferson pulling out a narrow 4-3 win over third-seeded Chestnut Hill College.

Jess Purdy went 2-0 on the day, as she teamed with Larize Nel at No. 3 doubles to help the Wildcats clinch a point, and then at No. 2 singles she defeated Micaela Rosignuolo in straight-sets (6-1, 6-2) to seal the match-clinching fourth point for WilmU. Valentina Ivankovic was also 2-0 in the morning as she was part of WilmU's victorious No. 1 doubles team, and her win at the No. 4 spot in singles against Oceane Mallevre was the first for the Wildcats in the contest. Alva Norberg then won at No. 3 singles to make it 3-1 as she downed Megan Lombardt 6-3, 6-2.

With the team score knotted at 3-3, and after dropping the first set, 6-1, Charley Egger rallied at the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup by winning sets 2 and 3 to clinch the match for Jefferson. She won the second set by a 7-6 margin and then won the third set 6-2. She teamed with Manni Zhang at No. 3 doubles to also pick up a 6-1 win to help the Rams clinch the doubles team point in the contest. Noelle Frenzel was victorious at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2) and she joined up with Nicole Hrbkova at the top doubles spot to produce a 6-1 triumph in that match.
