WEYMOUTH, Mass. (May 14, 2019) -- Goldey-Beacom showed its true mettle all week in Weymouth, MA and capped it with a thrilling 4-0 victory over Stonehill in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, punching a ticket into the Final 16 for the first time in team history.

This marks the furthest any team in school history has advanced in the NCAA Tournament and the first time has team has won two such games/matches in the same season.  The Lightning will face an opponent to be determined next Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Things began in a familiar way with 13th-ranked sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) getting a 6-2 victory over Annelise Howick and Caroline Ray at first doubles.  It was their 21st victory of the season, the most by one doubles team in school history.

Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) ensured the doubles point would go the Lightning's way for a 15th time this season, recording a 6-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles over Isabelle Porter and Bethany Hammond.

Zheng then continued her stellar play at second singles, rolling to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Samantha Ormesher.  Junior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain), who had the clinching point in Goldey-Beacom's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference titles wins in 2016 and 2017, put her squad on the brink with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Emma Markaryan.

Junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) then slammed the door, grinding her way to a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Howick at fifth singles to secure the squad's best finish in its 14-year history.  It was the Lightning's seventh shutout of the season.
