Garden City, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team's 2023 campaign came to an end Friday afternoon after losing to 2-0 Adelphi University in the NCAA East Regional First Round. The hosting number two seed Adelphi Panthers outpaced the seventh seeded Purple Knight offense, registering 14 shots to UB's five. The loss ends Bridgeport's season record at 10-8-3 overall. The Panthers will face off with the number six seed Molloy University after the Lions defeated number three seed Jefferson University earlier today.

Adelphi struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Adelphi's Jessica Schmitt whipped a ball into the box from the left flank UB's Lara Noe (Jr., Tübingen, Germany) was able to only get the slightest of touches with her head. Panther attacker Alexis Hellman, who was 10 yards away from goal hit the ball first time with the inside of her left boot, off the post and in for the first goal of the match.

The Purple Knights seemed to have equalized in the 27th minute as Solune Moll (So., Bern, Switzerland) played an early cross towards the back post run of Kate Thill (Jr., Goetzingen, Luxembourg) who placed the ball high and left of the Panther keeper with her right boot. The assistant's flag went up and offsides was the call, no goal.

Adelphi would maintain their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

UB would continue to put pressure on Adelphi but were unable to end their possession with attacks to goal. Held to just five total shots throughout the match with only two testing the keeper and both coming from outside of 30 yards.

Adelphi would double their lead in the 81st minute after winning the ariel ball near half field. A pass was played into Kayleigh Goodrich with her back to goal, where she played a lovely flick through to the run of Dylann Trahey. One versus one with the keeper, Trahey made no mistake and slotted the ball to the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

The final buzzer would sound with UB on the wrong end of the 2-0 scoreline.
