Caldwell Women's Soccer's Amber Raines Named CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2018

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 21, 2019) -- Caldwell University women's soccer standout Amber Raines on Thursday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2019, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The award recognizes Raines success on the field, in the classroom and in her community.

A standout defender for Caldwell, Raines was named the CACC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 21, as her steady defensive play helped guide the Cougars to the No. 3 seed in the 2019 CACC Championship Tournament. She was also named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year later in the season in early November.

The senior from Millville, N.J., is a psychology major who owns a 3.39 cumulative grade point average.

Raines has also taken part in several outreach initiatives for people in need. Raines went on a Belize Immersion trip in both 2018 and 2019, where she helped build a playground for a local village; helped fix up a local elementary school; and back home helped raise funds for clothing and other items to send to individuals in Belize. She also volunteers at the local Millville, N.J., Police Station with the Police Explorer Organization working at food pantries, and working with youths in the area.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is given out each month from September through May, which spans the course of the academic calendar. Each of the CACC's 14 member institutions are able to nominate one student-athlete per month and must include information about that individual's athletic performance, academic accomplishments and work in the surrounding communities.

Raines becomes the second Caldwell student-athlete to earn the award during the 2019-20 season, as volleyball's Elise Smith earned the honor during September.
